2.3.7 Installation Path

  The installation utility for Red Hat Linux 4.0 includes the ability to upgrade from prior RPM versions of Red Hat Linux (2.0, 2.1 and 3.0.3) (Figure 2.6 Upgrading your system will install the modularized 2.0 kernel as well as updated versions of the packages installed on your machine. Existing configuration files will be preserved as filename.rpmsave and a log of the upgrade process will be generated in /tmp/upgradelog. As software evolves configuration file formats can change, so you should carefully compare your orginal configuration files to the new files before making replacements.
