I have noticed alot of news articles concerning the ATI Graphics
Ultra Pro video card and X windows.
The proper Xserver for this card is XF86.mach32
With this Xserver you can use 1400x1240 virtual res. and
1280x1024 phyiscal res.
It also supports virtual console switching as Xfree does but
with this Xserver you can very very fast performance from the
ATI card. Also, the developer of this Xserver gives support
like I have never seen. My thanks to the developer, Keith Martin
has written a fantastic piece of code! I wish all code was
written and supported by people like this! If microsoft would
only write and support code like XF86.mach32, Bill Gates would
be worth alot more than 7 billion! Way to go Keith Martin!

Except for one little problem. That server is not available to anyone who
is not part of the XFree86 development team. It is ALPHA code, which we
have not made available. Since you are not a member of the beta team
I would love to know how you got it, because whoever gave it to you
violated the rules they agreed to when they joined out team. This code
is NOT to be distributed. Period.
There will be a call for beta-testers when we get the stuff ready. We
are working on it.
Anyone violating our no-distribution policy will be summarily dismissed
from the team, if we find out who did it. We have very few rules; this
is the only significant one that we ask people to abide by. It's very
plain, and very simple.

I posted info as to where to find the Mach32 Xserver for the
ATI Graphics Ultra Pro video card but I forgot to mention that
you also need libc.so.4.4.3

The Xserver fully supports this ATI Card including all the features
of Xfree (virtual terminal switching ) plus 1280x1024 phy. res. if
you monitor can handle it also 1400x1240 virtual screen res.

Is the ATI ULTRA PRO useable at all with Xfree without the code we shouldn't
use? I mean, if it isn't useable, you can hardly blame people for attempting
to get the version that exists, whether it's bug free or not...
I understand that the Xfree group won't support such users, and that's only
fair, but why is it such a big deal if someone shares the code, it's not
like anyone is getting paid here, right? :)

Because we choose our own software development and release procedures, and we
choose to live without the anarchy of the Linux development methodology. We
have been badly burnt once in the past due to pre-release code being
distributed to people. The first SLS went out with an ALPHA XFree86 release,
not even a beta release (remember 1.0Ya?). We answered HUNDREDS of email
messages with "upgrade to 1.1". We desire to not do this again.
We also support a dozen operating systems, not just Linux. One of our
policies is that we only do things that work on every OS. That includes
software releases. This binary is only available for Linux. It is not
fair to the other XFree86 users.
The fact is that we DO consider it a big deal. People violating our
express wishes does not make us really happy to continue to develop code
for that community. We do this of our own free will, with our own time
and sweat, and often our own money (I've personally spent over $2500 in
hardware and documentation to be able to keep this going). And we DON'T
get paid. Hence I don't think it's asking too much to ask you to abide
by our wishes, whatever they may be.

Unless you remove it from all FTP sites it's posted on...methinks you
shall be fighting a losing battle. The card is very popular and to use
a mach32 Xserver over a X8514 server, is quite beneficial.

Yes, heaven forbid the Linux user community respect the wishes of the
people who put in thousands of hours of effort on their behalf.
