Fvwm release 0.90 has been uploaded to sunsite, as file
/pub/Linux/Incoming/fvwm-0.90.tar.z

Fvwm is a light-weight window manager which provides a simple virtual
desktop and a 3-D look for windows decorations.

Memory consumption for Fvwm is about 1/2 to 1/3 that of twm.

Many bug fixes have been made since release 0.82. In addition,
some new features have been added:
1. Picture Icons
2. Automatic placement of icons on the left and bottom of the screen.
3. DecorateTransients and RandomPlacement options, which work as in Twm
4. Keyboard shortcuts which allow completely mouse-less window manager
   operation.
5. Sub-menus. These are not pull-right menus, but they are
sub-menus. As an example, a sub-menu is used to get confirmation
of the "Quit Fvwm" selection in the standard configuration file.
6. Title-bar button uses can now be specified by the user's configuration
   file.

All these improvements have not increased code size, but stack + data
size has increased about 4 percent.

One feature which has not been added is a re-start option. This is
not included because it is only used during configuration, and can
be emulated by moving an xterm to the last line of your xinitrc file,
and then killing and restarting the window manager at will.

A Linux binary is included. To use it, you need Xfree86-1.3, and libc-4.4.1.

Fvwm release 0.91 has been uploaded to sunsite, as file
/pub/Linux/Incoming/fvwm-0.91.tar.z

Fvwm is a light-weight window manager which provides a simple virtual
desktop and a 3-D look for windows decorations.

Memory consumption for Fvwm is about 1/2 to 1/3 that of twm.

Several bug fixes have been made since release 0.9:
1. Problems with dialog boxes not appearing, and programs locking up,
   in particular xman.
2. Several stupid typos.
3. A problem with the high-light colors looking odd.

In addition, some new features have been added:
1. Click to focus mode. This is not compatible with keyboard shortcuts (yet).
2. DontMoveOff option, makes it impossible to loose a window by moving
or placing it off the screen.
3. Some decorative improvements.
4. A restart option.

All these improvements have not increased the program size.

A Linux binary is included. To use it, you need Xfree86-1.3, and libc-4.4.1.

Fvwm release 0.92 has been uploaded to sunsite again, as file
/pub/Linux/Incoming/fvwm-0.92.tar.z.

Fvwm is a light-weight window manager which provides a simple virtual
desktop and a 3-D look for windows decorations.

Memory consumption for Fvwm is about 1/2 to 1/3 that of twm.
Fvwm is targeted at machines with too little memory, and at laptops
on which mouse usage may be awkward. All window manager functions
can be performed (conveniently) without a mouse.

In this release we have the following new features:
1. 3D look for menus
2. 3D look for icon frames
3. Improved handling for shaped windows like oclock and xeyes. Since these
extensions consume an extra 60Kbytes of memory by loading in portions
of the LibXt shared library, they are not compiled in by default.

Bug Fixes:
1. Restart operation now works correctly
2. Several dialog box and pull-down menu bugs were fixed.

A Linux binary isincluded. To use it you will need libc-4.4.1, XFree-1.3.
Shaped window extensions are not included in the binary.

[If you haven't tried fvwm yet, do. It's a wonderful window manager. --mdw]

Fvwm release 0.96 (source and binaries) has been uploaded to sunsite,
as file /pub/Linux/Incoming/fvwm-0.96-source.tar.z and
/pub/Linux/X11/Incoming/fvwm-0.96-binaries.tar.z. They will probably be
moved to /pub/Linux/X11/window-managers.

Fvwm is a light-weight window manager which provides a simple virtual
desktop, a 3-D look for windows decorations, and color icons.

Memory consumption for Fvwm is about 1/2 to 1/3 that of twm.
Fvwm is targeted at machines with too little memory, and at laptops
on which mouse usage may be awkward. All window manager functions
can be performed (conveniently) without a mouse.

In this release we have many new features:

1. Color Icons can now be shaped color icons, like ctwm or a Macintosh
2. A Maximize function has been added for mwm fans.
3. The pager has been upgraded. It is more easily interpreted, with
pager-window colors matching their full-size counterparts. You can
now move windows in the pager, and set the input focous in click-to-focus
   mode.
4. A user-selectable number of title-bar buttons are available (up to 10).
5. You can now have partially undecorated windows, omitting either the
title-bar or the border, or both.

Bug Fixes:
1. Can now bind keyboard keys to actions in icon windows.
2. Fixed the parsing of EXEC and RESTART functions for key bindings
   in the root window.
3. No longer provides stray mouse-button releases to windows (used to
   make xmeter crash sometimes.
4. Fixed a problem which resulted where moving the mouse fast
at the end of a window move would cause the window to show
   up in the wrong page.

4. Fixed button 2 problems with click-to-focus mode.
5. Fixed some aligned problems with shaped windows.
6. See the ChangeLog for more details

Note: If you want to use color icons, you will need to get the Xpm libraries:
/pub/X11/contrib/xpm-3.2g.tar.Z for the Xpm library, or
 /pub/Linux/X11/libs, file libXpm32g.tar.z. for a pre-compiled shared

up on screen edges. (See EdgeResistance in the man page).
5. Loads of bug fixes and code speed-ups.
6. There is a sample_configs directory where I'm collecting
.fvwmrc files that may be of general interest. People

There are a number of new features in this release:
1. Border drawing speed should be improved. If anyone finds
   this noticeable, please tell me.
2. Mostly this is a bug-change release. That is, I removed most of
the existing bugs and added a whole slew of new ones.
3. WindowListSkip. Lets you leave specific windows out of the
   window list pop-up
4. Opaque move is selectable at compile time. This seems pretty worthless
on my hardware. If anyone (that anyone at all) finds this useful,
   please let me know.
5. The configuration file name can be specified in the file name.
6. Circulate Up/Down can take a window name argument to make it
   "circulate to window (name)".
7. Added Compile time option to have Circulate Up/Down skip iconified
   windows.

Important Bug Fixes:
1. Foreground color works correctly
2. Fixed auto-placement of application supplied icons.
3. Patched up mwm-like.fvwmrc to delete windows if you double click on
   title-bar button #1.
4. Fixed problems with editres and xprop.
5. Fixed problem of having windows disappear if you move them too
   far in the pager.

Observent users will note that the README no longer includes a request for
new feature ideas. I think we have plenty of features now. Of course, I am
still open to any really good ideas. Here are some missing features which I
am thinking about anyway:
1. Restore correct operation for multi-screen displays. I have only limited
access to a system with a multi-screen display, so I may be unable
to accomplish this myself. I did do some early leg-work, so that fvwm
should now at least be able to work on any one screen of a multi-screen
   display now.
2. Add a means of having the WM communicate with applications, so
that applications could request that the window manager perform some
operations, or so that applications could request info from the WM.
This would allow arbitrary custom extensions to fvwm, without having to
patch the source. If anyone has good ideas about this, please contact me.

application's mouse-buttons.

In this release we have the following new features:

There are a number of new features in this release:
1. Multi-screen displays are fully supported. Read the section of the
man page if you have one.
2. Opaque move is selectable at run time. It is possible to OpaqueMove

3. The pager is improved.
